years empowering Latinxs globally
Since 1983, we’ve been leading the largest transnational network strengthening Latinx leadership and influence, and driving philanthropic resources into the community to build a better world.
Philanthropy must be a democratic tool to help us achieve power, build resources for our community, and grow influence. HIP will continue to track foundations: who they are, what they’re funding, who they’re funding, how they’re funding — or not funding — in our communities. We will continue to hold these institutions accountable and help philanthropic leaders understand the impact of funding Latinx issues.”

Our future depends on Latinxs thriving. The population in Latin America & the Caribbean is 659M (over 8% of the world’s population). In the U.S., almost 1 in 5 are Latinxs. That’s 60 million of us! We’re voting in record numbers. And we’re increasing our buying power.
Founded by three Latinxs in the Bay Area in 1983, HIP was born as an affinity group to raise awareness about issues that impact Latinx communities within the philanthropy sector. Over the decades, HIP has not only connected large funders with smaller Latinx-focused nonprofits worldwide, but has also become the power house that informs and represents the interests of our communities among global nonprofits, funders, philanthropists, impact investors and the public sector.
With the spirit of innovation that we inherit from our Latinx ancestors, HIP has continuously evolved its grantmaking and advocacy model towards a more proactive approach to fundraising and funding Latinx-led nonprofit and missions. HIP has also invested in Latinx leadership, equity, and inclusion programs to drive our communities towards a self-sustainable future of shared prosperity.
With offices in the U.S. and Latin America, and a global network of trusted partners, HIP has been able to advance efforts and regrant funding for a wealth of humanitarian and civil issues, such as gender equality, the border crisis, racial equity, civic participation, fair distribution of resources, among others. HIP has also launched HIPGive, the first crowdfunding for Latinxs social enterprises, and the Startup Economy Wealth Generation, a fund supporting Latinx entrepreneurs.
We believe our impact and legacy is central to giving every Latinx the opportunity to unlock their fullest potential and thrive.
